6 Surefire Hangover Helpers

Surfing the web this morning and this article @Delish popped out at me.
6 Surefire Hangover Helpers

#1. Coffee

Coffee can be especially helpful when you’re battling a hangover. The jolt of caffeine can alleviate a headache and help get you going on a morning when you'd rather just stay in bed. If you can't muster the strength to brew a pot yourself, order a strong cup in a big size from your local barista.
Cinnamon Coffee

Set up the coffeemaker before the party. Then fill your travel mug with this blend that adds a touch of comforting cinnamon.

#2. Fruit Juice
If you’re hung-over, you’re likely dehydrated too. Rebalance your body by drinking plenty of fluids. We find that fruit juices often go down easier than plain water. Some people sip sports drinks, to help restore electrolytes and kick those awful hangover symptoms. If your stomach is upset, which it probably is, try seltzer or a soda like ginger ale — the fizz action is famous for soothing the stomach.
Iced Fruit Punch

This bubbly fruit punch is a good choice on a bad morning. Freeze juice ahead of time and mix with seltzer and soda before serving yourself or your suffering sweetie.

#3. Smoothies

Coat your angry tummy with something that tastes better than the pink stuff in a bottle and has natural sugars to give you a boost. Try recipes that call for bananas, which are high in potassium and help with the aching muscles that are common after a night of alcohol indulgence.
Banana and Strawberry Smoothie
This at-home recipe can help shake off a rough morning — we promise it's worth enduring the sound of the blender.

#4. Greasy Spoon

Sometimes a greasy burger and fries is just what you need to survive a hangover. Often a great predrink precaution, a big meal can slow alcohol's effects and help partygoers consume less. The day after, a heavier, fatty meal can absorb alcohol that may still be sloshing around.
All-American Burger
Don't close the blinds and go back to bed. Get up and get yourself one of these.

#5. Hair of the Dog
Although more alcohol may be the last thing on your mind, some swear there is no substitute for a cocktail or frosty draft beer to kick a nasty hangover. Enhance a postparty brunch with a mimosa, Bloody Mary, or beer, and clear your calendar for a lazy day of recovery.
The Perfect Bloody Mary

This secret weapon is garnished with a stalk of celery, which we hope you won't consider breakfast.

#6. Breakfast Anytime
Whether you went to bed at 5 a.m. or woke up at 5 a.m., after a night of overindulging, breakfast should definitely be on the menu. A greasy plate of eggs and bacon is a likely choice, but you can eat healthier while you recover by choosing turkey bacon or egg whites. After all, your body has suffered enough, hasn't it?
Diana Green's Breakfast Sandwich

A healthier version of the sandwich that has helped countless college students make it to class.

What was I thinking??

Today hubs n I took the kids Ice Skating. Since hubs doesn't ice skate, I had to lace up a pair of skates in which has been 30 years since I put on a pair. I was in grade 1, and now I remember why I chose to go rollerskating instead of ice skating in elementary school.
Give me a pair of roller skates over ice skates any day...lol...ok so if it kills me,
2010 is the year I learn to Ice Skate.
Plus inline skates are on ALL of our lists this 2010 year. The boys can inline skate sorta, but the ice skating is harder...so if I can skate better I can help Eman since
he has very poor co-ordination.
Oh plus I think my neighbourhood was the only place in my city that it snowed upon. Woke up to a a teeny bit of snow but it wasn't anywhere else...soooo weird.
Time to make dinner for the fam!
Have a great night.

A New Year, A New Dooo!!

My soon to be 11 yr old son had longer hair than me in the summer.
In September we got alot chopped off but it was still down to his chin.
So today he decided he wanted a "FAUXHAWK" and I let him because it's been 3 LONG LONG years since he had really short hair! I am so glad he went with this cut. He looks soooo handsome!
I've missed being able to see his face completely without being covered by a mop & some bangs.
Here is a collage of his July - December Hair Styles.

Can't believe there are only 2 days left in this year.
I have NO 2010 calendars yet...lol...guess I should go out and get some..lol..
TTFN!!

Merry Christmas & Happy Boxing Day!

Ok so today is the day after Christmas which in Canada is called BOXING DAY!
It's like Black Friday, don't ask me why its the day RIGHT after Christmas and why ppl line up wee hours in the morning to get cheap deals on all sorts of items. Personally I think it's a lil backwards. So I've never partaken in the whole "BOXING DAY" festivities.
So while tons of crazy people are out and about spending more money and getting irritated by crowds and whatever else, I am enjoying a lazy day at home with the kids! It's nice to sit and not have to worry about doing anything..lol....thinking about taking the kids ice skating tomorrow.
Anyways I had a really great Christmas with my WHOLE family.
Mom and I did ALL the cooking as USUAL, and every year mom says...NEXT Christmas we aren't cooking anymore...lol...this year I think my mom actually means that this was our last big Christmas dinner for a while.
When we have guests, we can't sit and relax when we are in the kitchen cooking all the time.
So this New Years dinner will be the first time we are actually going out for dinner.
There will only be 8 of us. I think Chinese Food is what the plan is....not too sure.
It's hard to believe the kids have been home for a whole week already. The time has just slipped way from us! My niece is visiting us from Northern BC, she arrived last Monday and is leaving this Monday so my boys will be sad to see her leave. We've been so busy the kids haven't even had time to call up any friends to play with. My baby turns 7 in 12 more days so I have a bday party to start planning as well...*sigh*..lol...
Anyways I'm outta here for now.
Hope you all had a Merry Christmas & Have a Super New Year in 2010.
Happy Holidays

Ok Seriously, WHY......

Can't I seem to keep up with all the days passing???
Today is December 7th, 2009??? Seriously?? Dang.
Christmas is just 18 days away! Are you all done your Christmas shopping cuz I sure in the heck haven't...lol...I have more things to get & I still have to get my christmas cards out!
I am soooo not organzied this year!!
One of my MANY New Years Resolutions is to be more organized,
and to de-clutter alot of crap in my head & house.
Ok so for those you looking to make some gifts this Christmas please check out this blog!
Holiday Gifts from the Kitchen
Lots of great gifts made straight from the heart!
I have yet to do any baking yet, sadly I am just not feeling the Christmas Spirit.
Not to say that I am feeling Ebineezer like either...lol.. I love Christmas but for some strange reason I just don't feel ready for it! Seems like the kids JUST started school.
Anyhoo a pic of my boys in front of my mom's Christmas tree, to help
raise the Christmas Spirit..lol...

Hope you are having a Magnificant Monday!

November already?? Woah...

Can you believe this is only 54 more days until Christmas??
I know I know... it sure is crazy!
My hubby's 38th birthday is this next Saturday. So I guess I will start doing some
Christmas Shopping/Birthday shopping this week. I really can't stand crowded malls & shops so I will be doing most of my shopping over the next couple weeks to get it over and done with.
It has turned out to be gorgeous today!! I am just finishing up cleaning up and doing laundry then I will be taking the kids for a nice walk & see if I can get some great sunny fall pics which is rare around here since it usually rains most of the time! Yesterday was the first time in about 5 years since we've had NO RAIN on Halloween. It was so nice that the kids were warm & dry not shivering.
Yeah so that is all.
TTFN!!

Happy Halloween!!

So today is Halloween!
All the ghouls, ghost & gobblins will are out in full force as I type!
I brought my kids home a lil early so we didn't get to bug the entire neighbourhood for candy.
My youngest came home about an hour before the oldest. He was BEAT!! LOL!! And the only reason why the oldest came home was because his feet were sore plus I wanted to come home so I could get them ready for bed and hit a neighbours party!
Don't forget to turn those clocks back 1 hour tonite! WOOOOOOO for the extra hour of sleep!
I can't believe tomorrow is the 1st of November! Christmas is just around the corner!! ACKKK!!
I think I'm going to get some Christmas shopping done this week. Today at the mall proved to me that it is time to get it over and done with! All the lil trick or treaters at the mall was too insane for me! I HATE, DESPISED DO NOT LIKE being around massive crowds like that!!
ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!....lol....
Ok so here is the "D-man" as a Canuck Fan on the left, and the "E-man" as a Scarecrow.

Time to go party!!
TTFN!!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes

Ok this isn't nearly as good as the pumpkin muffin recipe I posted earlier,
but this is not bad for a quick fix.

Ingredients:

1 box of white/yellow/spice cake mix
3 Eggs
1 c Pumpkin Pure
1c water
1Tbsp Pumpkin Spice ( Cinnmon, Ground Cloves, Nutmeg & ground ginger)
I also used 1/8th zucchini 1/2 carrot shaved
100mL apple sauce.
1/8 c of oil
I also added a bit of oats, ground flax seed & flour to adjust the consistancy.
(sorry I just threw this all together, didn't follow a recipe)
Mix all together & put in muffin tins of your choice.
Bake about 35 minutes.

Some coffee would be great with these lil guys!
I hope these work out for you.

Pumpkin Spice Heaven...

Well I went out with my brother today to Walmart to get some gingerale & crackers for my puke bug couch ridden 10 year old. So on our way back we stop at Starbucks & Tim Hortons for some pumpkin spice goodness!! Starbucks for the Pumpkin Spiced Latte & a slice pumpkin bread since Tim Hortons doesn't have the pumpkin lattes and then on to Tim Hortons for a donut for my E-man. So while picking out a donut for the kid I was drooling over the pumpkin spiced muffin so I picked 1 up for me totally forgetting that I had a piece of pumpkin loaf...lol..
Mmmmmm there for I am in pumpkin spice heaven!

Ohh and yeah...fall has finally hit Vancouver! Right now the Canucks are Playing Toronto,
THE LEAFS ARE GONNA FALL 2nite!!
GO CANUCKS GO!!!!! ~ WOOOOOO!!

Well hello there Mr...

lSun!! It's so nice to see you!! It's been a while since you've actually stayed with us for more than a few hours. We would formally like to invite you to stay with us for Halloween. Yeah we've hung with Mr. Rain and I have to say he's quite NASTY on Halloween.
My 10 year old "D-man" is sick. He was up barfing at 1am, 3am & 5am.
Ewww barf on the carpets everywhere & in all over the bathroom floor is just not something I enjoy dealing with especially at that time of the day.
Soooo I got up and cleaned up his barfs while he bathed each time. Poor Kiddo..he's so hungry but he can't eat! We've tried the toast, stoned wheat thin crackers etc. Sooo its time to try some gatorade & gingerale and the soda crackers. He has a field trip on Tuesday to the mines at Britannia Beach so I'm hoping he's 100% better by then.
Was outside a few minutes ago taking pics of "E-man" as he likes to call himself..
the 6 year old playing in the leaves!

Have a great weekend!

Happy Belated Thanksgiving. (October 12th)

So yeah, Thanksgiving was last Monday October 12th.
I am thankful...yep sure am! I am very thankful for my family & friends!
I am thankful for food on the table and shelter over our heads!! :)
We celebrated on Sunday instead as there is always alot of cooking in the household.
Mom & I always do the cooking, no one EVER invites us to their house for a change which would be nice every now and then! Cooking for the entire family is a challenge.
Anyways so yeah...nuff about the complaining there...lol...
So I made cranberrry, apple & pork sausage stuffing, cooked the turkey, did mashed taters, yams, homemade pumpkin cobbler & apple pie. (first homemade apple pie ever) My mom did up the salad, and all the steam veggies (carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts). Even my 6 yr old ate the brussel sprouts...he said they tasted funny but he likes them....lol... He definately is his fathers son!! The 10 yr old and I don't care for the Brussel Sprouts...ICK!!
So yes lots to eat for lots of ppl. We only had 1 night of leftovers left. Amazing!!
So HAPPY BELATED THANKGSGIVING to my fellow Canadians! Hope you all had a great day with your families!!
Now a lil pic of my baby eating his Thankful Dinner!

Ok so now on to other news! A HEALTHY 26 year old woman who just lives over the bridge in the next city over died this week from the H1N1. She has a young baby boy! :o(
Soooo...tests are being done about why she died & what type of strain she had.
Things like this are so fricken scary especially so close to home! The news reported that over the past couple months that all the tests for the H1N1 flu in people have come back 99% positive.
How scary is that!! Ackkk!! Can I go hide in my own private bubble now?
Stay healthy everyone!
TTFN!!

Up at the butt crack of dawn??

Ugh...so this is the day I have been totally dreading.
Found out earlier this summer that there is epilepsy in my hubby's family, and our youngest child who I call "E"-man is now having a 2nd EEG done. The first one came back negative, so we are now getting a sleep deprived one done. This could explain why he has "space outs" or is "zoned out" every now and then. So I was told to keep him up until 10pm which is 2 hours past his usual bedtime, and then to wake him up at 2am and keep him up until his appt which is at 7:30am.
In which he must fall asleep for them to do the test. ARG!!! So it was a bit of a struggle trying to get him up, but he's up, we're up. We've been playing CandyLand, Memory, Watched Scooby Doo The Movie, ate some cereal, He's now playing with the Nintendo DS while I write this blog. In about half hour I'm going to take him outside for a lil walk in hopes the cool air will keep him awake...lol..
So this is why I am up at the butt crack of Dawn. The time now is 4am ish. *yawn*
I'm pretty much ready for bed, but I have my coffee going. Poor kid isn't allowed any caffeine or chocolate before the procedure. *BOINK* ackkkk!!

TGIF!! Ohhh yea its Thanksgiving here in Canada on Monday so my boy will have plenty of time to catch up on his sleep before he returns to school on Tuesday.

Ok..so I'm off to grab another cup of Coffee and to get dressed for my invigorating walk!!
TTFN!!

Pumpkin Spice Latte & Pumpkin Muffins

Mmm more Pumpkin Recipes...another latte and a Pumpkin Muffin recipe
again from Baking and Books.

Pumpkin Spice Muffins (with and without brown sugar topping)
Ingredients: Makes 15 medium sized muffins
  • 1 3/4 cups pumpkin puree
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cloves
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2/3 cups vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
    For the topping (optional):
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons butter at room temperature

Cookware: muffin pan

Heat oven to 350 degrees F.

In a large bowl combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, sugar and spices.

In a medium bowl combine the pumpkin puree, oil and eggs with a hand held mixer. Add to the dry ingredients and mix well, scraping the bottom of the bowl with a spoon frequently. Spoon into buttered muffin pan, filling each muffin mold a little over halfway.

If you are making the topping: combine the flour, sugar and cinnamon, then cut in the butter with a fork or knife. Stir until the mixture begins to look like breadcrumbs, then sprinkle on top of the muffin batter already in the pan.

Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out dry. Allow to cool for 15 minutes before digging in. :yum:

Note: Muffins based on an AllRecipes.com recipe.

Pumpkin Spice Latte (My Recipe)
Another, slightly more decadent version of this drink can be found here.

    Ingredients: Makes 2 servings
  • 1 1/2 level tablespoons pumpkin puree
  • 1 1/2 cups low-fat milk
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon (+ a pinch for sprinkling later)
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups strong coffee (brewed using 2 tbs per 1 cup of water)
  • 2 tablespoons Coffeemate creamer
  • 4 to 8 teaspoons of granulated sugar
  • Nutmeg (optional)

Begin brewing coffee.

In a blender combine the milk, pumpkin, 1/4 tsp cinnamon and 1 tsp vanilla. Pour into a small saucepan and cook over low heat until the milk begins to froth slightly. Remove from heat.

For each serving: Pour 1/2 cup of the pumpkin mixture into your coffee mug. Add 1 generous tablespoon of Coffeemate creamer. Heat in the microwave for 30 seconds, then add 1 cup of brewed coffee. Add 2 to 4 teaspoons of sugar (depending on how sweet you like your drink, I added 3 tsps.) Top off with a touch more ‘pumpkin milk’ then sprinkle with cinnamon or nutmeg. Serve immediately.

Pumpkin Spice Latte II

So I have this friend who linked this recipe she was trying.
It sounded yummeh!! ~ Thanks Michelle!
I will have to revamp it 2 my liking since I don't really care for the coffeemate creamer.
(Picture coming soon)
Recipe came from Baking and Books
    Ingredients: Makes 2 servings

  • 1 level tablespoon pumpkin puree
  • 1 cup milk (whole if you dare!)
  • 1/2 tablespoon light brown sugar (packed and leveled)
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg (+ a pinch for dusting later)
  • 1/8 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups strong coffee (brewed using 2 tbs per 1 cup of water)
You can also use a shot or two of espresso instead of coffee.
  • 4 tablespoons Coffeemate creamer
  • 4 to 8 teaspoons of granulated sugar
  • Whipped cream
Begin brewing coffee.

In a blender puree the milk, pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, brown sugar and vanilla. Pour into a small saucepan and cook over low heat until the milk is warm and begins to froth slightly. (About 4-5 minutes.) Remove from heat.

For each serving: Pour 1/2 cup of the pumpkin mixture into your coffee mug. Add 2 generous tablespoons of Coffeemate creamer. Heat in the microwave for 30 seconds, then add 1 cup of brewed coffee. Add 2 to 4 teaspoons of sugar (depending on how sweet you like your drink, I added 3 tsps.) Top off with a touch more ‘pumpkin milk’ then cover with whipped cream and sprinkle with nutmeg. Serve immediately

Pumpkin Pie Milkshake Anyone?

Ok so my favourite time of the year has come!!
YAY~~ Welcome FALL!! I love to bake with apples and pumpkins so I am always on the prowl for some great recipes!! I have come across a few that I am interested in trying!
(picture to follow once I make it)

Like this Pumpkin Pie Milkshake Recipe that came from Sara @ Best Bites
Mmmmmmmmmm!!!

Pumpkin Pie Milkshake
Recipe by Our Best Bites

1/3 C pumpkin, canned or homemade
1/4 - 1/2 C milk
1/4 t vanilla
1/2 t cinnamon
1/16 t cloves (just use a 1/8 t measure and fill it half way, or do a pinch)
1/16 t nutmeg
2 T brown sugar
2 C vanilla ice cream
a few graham crackers

Pop it all in a blender. Start with 1/4 C milk and then slowly add more if needed to make the blender process it all. I used somewhere between 1/4-1/2 C.

A note about blenders:
Here's the problem with making thick, diner style milkshakes at home: A lot of times you have to add so much milk to the thing to get the blender to process that it turns into a milk-slushie instead. Or you have to blend and plunge, blend and plunge, etc. You know the drill, right? So if you have any trouble with your blender, I would recommend blending everything but the ice cream first and then mashing it into the ice cream by hand (well, with a hand. Holding a fork or spoon :) If your scooped ice cream sits out at room temp while you measure the other things and get them all ready, then by the time you mash it all together it should be a good consistency.

Sprinkle with crushed graham cracker crumbs before serving.

Ok quick...

somebody call 911- (kidding) Who the heck stole September?
They better give it back!!
OMG I can't believe today is the last day of September.
Seriously I am in shock! I have been so busy with life it isn't funny.
Both the boys settled into school pretty well. My boys are in grade 5 & grade 1 and now I have all this spare time it's weird. I don't know what to do with myself. But actually I do.
I haven't worked since I was pregnant with my oldest who is 10 1/2. Soooo it's time to dust off the old resume, redo it and get back to work PT and make some extra money.
Anyways.. just wanted to poke my nose in and say hello.
I'll be back next month...hahaha!!
HAPPY FALL!!
WOOOOOOO!!
hugs, Bonnie

Welcome September!

Wow...I can't believe it's September already!
The whole month of August swept right by me without a post!
School starts here a week today! And my baby will be in school full time!
"D"man is going into grade 5 & "E"man is going into grade 1.
The kids class lists are supposed to be posted by Friday so we shall see. Time for me to get out and get a part time job and make a few extra bucks.
Summer has pretty much gone here. It's cooler and sunny for now. Our pool is too chilly to swim in. We have shade covering the pool & the backyard 95% of the day, and we don't have a pool heater so it sucks when the pool is too cold. We are expecting rain by the end of the week.
I read an article saying that in the US they are expecting 50% of their population to be infected with the H1N1 virus which is really scary with school just around the corner. So now onto their Flu shots...just wondering how many ppl are thinking about getting them?
I really am not too sure about it since it is new strain of the flu, and we don't really have much info on the results of the shot after it's been given.
Well I just have to edit some photos before posting them for my Lasagne Recipe that I made Sunday night. Mmmmm it was nice having lasagne. It's been a long long time.
Oh I changed my blog theme and I really like it, but I really don't like how I have to keep adding my links n such. I wish that everything would transfer over without losing anything. LOL oh well..I'll be working on adding my links as well.
TTFN!!
Hugs, Bonnie

Holy Heat Wave....

The past week has been kinda warm, the temperature is currently sitting at 29c /84.2F but feels like 37c/98.6F. I feel like I am cooking from the inside out...lol.....
And apparently we haven't seen anything yet!
This next week, all week long will bring us high temperatures of 33c-34c(91.4F/93.2F) but with the humidity it will feel like 42c(107.6F). Apparently the last time we had a heat wave like this was in 1922. Not exactly too sure about how accurate that is and honestly I'm too damned hot to google it! I am sweating so much just sitting here while typing... Yesterday we had an awesome thunderstorm that lasted for a few hours and they are calling for another one sometime today! I really don't mind summer thunderstorms I love how the cool rain feels on my warm skin! Ok..so now I guess I have to de-stickify myself from my leather chair here and go make the kids some dinner!! Wish I could just order out but no such luck!
Ok so now I am off to make Natchos and will probably go dunk my head in the arctic like pool...lol..
TTFN!!
hugs, Bonnie

Diet Water? Artificial Sweeteners May Wind Up In Your H20

Found this disturbing article.....

Water treatment plants don't filter chemical sweeteners, a new report finds.

Chemicals that make our diet soda and foods taste sweeter may be souring the environment. A new study published in the journal Environmental Science & Technology has found that artificial sweeteners aren't being removed during wastewater treatment, and they're showing up in rivers, lakes, and even tap water.

THE DETAILS: Researchers took water samples from 10 wastewater treatment plants, four rivers, and nine lakes in Switzerland and tested them for the presence of four artificial sweeteners: acesulfame K (sold under the brand name Sunett), sucralose (sold as Splenda), saccharin (used in Sweet'N Low), and cyclamate (which is banned in the U.S. but still used in Europe). Acesulfame K was the most prevalent, cropping up in 65 percent of their water samples, and along with sucralose, it was detected in treated wastewater in concentrations equal to those found in untreated wastewater. The scientists also tested wastewater sludge to see if those same sweeteners degraded after seven hours. They didn't. The researchers also gathered samples of tap water in Zurich, which draws its water from many of the groundwater sources tested, and found acesulfame in the tap water as well.

WHAT IT MEANS: Whether it's artificial sweeteners or the pharmaceuticals and personal-care product chemicals that have been detected in American waterways, the synthetic substances we use every day don't simply disappear when we chug a diet soda, flush a toilet, or take a shower. And we don't know yet what impact these pseudosugars will have on our waterways, although a prior study on the prevalence of sucralose in rivers and lakes suggests that it could interfere with some organisms' feeding habits. Artificial sweeteners also aren't currently included in tests used by water filter manufacturers, so you may just have to accept that even filtered tap water may start tasting a little sweeter.

WHAT YOU CAN DO: Use fruits and herbs to sweeten your drinks; tell the EPA you want artificial sweeteners kept out of your water.

Here are a few ways to cut down on your exposure to chemical sweeteners:

Go natural. Rather than use artificial sweeteners to cut your calorie intake, use fruits and herbs to make your own "diet soda." Our Nickel Pincher columnist recently offered quite a few recipes for satisfying summer drinks. And make sure what you drink most is water, with brewed teas and low-fat dairy products your second most frequent choice.

Read labels. Artificial sweeteners are used in everything from drinks to low-calorie bread loaves to toothpastes. Keep an eye out for acesulfame K (also listed as acesulfame potassium), saccharin, and sucralose. Aspartame, another artificial sweetener commonly used in diet sodas, wasn't included in this study because it, previous research has found, biodegrades pretty quickly into the environment.

Alert the EPA. Send a public comment to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency telling them to research the effects of artificial sweeteners in drinking water.

Salted White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookies

Ok...I follow this website on Twitter called Baking Bites and she posted a link to her site for this yummeh scrump-delly-ishish recipe for Salted White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookies and for my own selfish reasons I am posting it on my blog so I don't lose the recipe! Hehehe!
I hope she doesn't mind me posting this, but I really want this recipe.

All Credit for photo and recipe goes to site Baking Bites.
(Thank you for this recipe...I will try it soon)

Salted White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookies
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup butter, room temperature
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
3/4 white chocolate chips
3/4 cup salted, toasted macadamia nuts, coarsely chopped
additional salt, for topping

Preheat oven to 350F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda and salt.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract, then gradually add in the flour mixture, followed by the white chocolate chips and macadamia nuts. If your macadamia nuts are unsalted, add an additional 1/4 tsp salt to the cookie dough.
Drop tablespoonfuls of dough (1-inch balls) onto prepared baking sheet. Sprinkle with a bit of salt.
Bake for 12-14 minutes, until cookies are just beginning to turn a light golden color around the edges. Bake an additional minute or so, until slightly more golden, for crispier cookies. Cool for about 2-3 minutes on the baking sheet until cookies are completely set, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
Store in an airtight container.

Makes about 2 dozen.

What it's JUNE already??

Happy 1st of June!!
I can't believe summer is just about here!
It's been pretty warm here for the last few weeks of May and the first day of June.
We usually are puddle jumping this time of the year but man oh man is it hot(for us).
The rain has been in the slacking off department for a long time. Don't get me wrong I am LOVING this sun and warm weather, just not used to it.
Today we hit a high of 31c / 88F.
Yeah yeah I know it's nothing compared to other places, but that is hot for us! Whew!!
My oldest son had track and field last week and it was a perfect day for it.
He has track and field again this week and they are calling for the same temp as today.
Guess we'll be packing him lots of water, sunblock and a hat to prevent
his poor pastey skin from burning. He takes after his pastey father...lol...unfortunately he wasn't blessed with my slightly darker complexion, where as my younger one was...lol..
So this is the time of the year for field trips and lots of activity within the schools and I have been enjoying all the time I have been spending with my boys. Tomorrow is the Parent Helper Tea, but oops...I forgot to RSVP to it, so I most likely won't show up...can't be rude yanno...lol..
Next week there is Sports Day and the Zoo for my Kindergarten guy, and then at the end of the month there is a trip to a popular run dairy farm. Some kids in the school's family run it.
The K's get 3 full days to attend class this month too! My Kindergartener is excited about that.
He was supposed to start full time Kindergarten this month to help him prepare for Grade 1 next September because he is special needs. (Has troubles with transitions and new expectations)
We just found out due to a TA being on medical leave in the morning class, my son's aid is filling in with another boy and can't take my son in the morning class now! He is really upset and disappointed which really sucks because he's been waiting all year for this!! Poor kiddo. Nothing I can say or do will change how let down he feels about this. :o(
Another thing I have to do is deal with the school board and their BS about 1/2 day support for him. He is going to be full time in September so I don't see how they figure that 1/2 is all they can do for him! How are they going to choose which part of the day he needs it the most??
We can't even tell when he will have his melt downs and problems, how the heck do they figure they can do this?? So I have a fight on my hand to make sure he gets the FULL time support and the support of his aid he has now. There's no guarantee that he will get her next year which is complete and total BULLSHIT!! Do these people even have an effin clue what this shit does to special needs kids??? OMG.....buy an effin clue FFS!! I am so angry!!
Ugh...well enough of this rant...it wasn't supposed to be a rant tonight...lol...
Have a great one and I can't believe the kids only have 18 days of school left!!
Ackkkkk!!
TTFN!!

The POOL is NOW OPEN!!

We had a bit of warmer weather, but not too warm!
It was 22c / 71F outside, but the kids wanted in the pool.
So we went and checked the temperature of the pool It was 20c/68F.
Ok seriously?? The kids wanted to go swimming!! That shiz it too cold for me! I like it to be about 22c/84F before I dip my foot into the pool....brrrrr!!! But ok in they went!!
I don't recall the boys swimming in the pool before the end of June! A month early and it wasn't even scorching out...lol...
Anyways here are a couple of pics from today that I thought I would share!

Ok Off to bed for me..it's almost midnight!

Tomorrow is a Holiday here in Canada.

Ranting... Read at your own risk!

First off The Vancouver Canucks were eliminated by the Chicago PUNKhawks in the playoffs!!
They out played our guys but also played dirty and alot of shiz was not called I hope those refs are sleeping with one eye open. Check out my picture!

Be afraid... be VERY AFRAID of the fans... ROFLMFAO!!!!!
I really thought this was the year for our guys!! They were playing so great!
I heard the bandwagon was pretty empty by the end of that game. Pffttt!! Whatever!! I am forever a Canuck Fan...win or lose.... no matter how crappy or how awesome they play!!
Hey all you Vancouver Canucks, you guys played your hearts out but it just wasn't meant to be this year!! We can do it next year!! I believe they will achieve that greatness called The Stanley Cup one day! Lord Stanley called and he wants it back in Canada, and thinks Vancouver would be a great place for it. GO CANUCKS!!!!
Secondly, yesterday was "E" Day! Election day for British Columbians and OH BOY what a huge disappointment!! Some people thought it was best to bring back El Gordo as the Premiere of BC and drive what little public assets we have left into the ground and sell it off. Also cut more money where I BELIEVE is needed the most. In HEALTHCARE & EDUCATION!!
My special needs son still HAS NO DIAGNOSIS, We have been WAITING in the system for over 2 years wondering what is up and we still haven't gotten anywhere closer to finding out, even with assessment almost in hand....aghhhhh!!!
I am stressed, I am pissed, I am tired of all this effin BS!!
This next picture is true... Look in the dictionary under Sell Out, BackStabbing, Lying,
Conniving...man I could go on...this guy's pic will be there....lol....

Now the school tells me that there isn't any money left in the budget next year for my son to have an aid FULL TIME... SO WHAT THE EFF is he supposed to do the other half of the day FFS??? Idiots...the world is filled with a bunch of over payed under caring morons that don't give a rats ass about anyone but themselves!!! Where is your compassion??? Why & HOW can you do this do our future El Gordo....would you treat your own kids like this?? SICK SICK SICK!!!
I am beyond pissed that this moron is going to continue to run our Province making the low income people dirt poor while he and his cling ons receive huge ass pay raises, and him lining his buddies pockets fatter with SELLING OUT OUR PROVINCE!!
YOU EL GORDO ARE SOME PIECE OF WORK!!!
Get a grip, and do something right for a change!! Oh and screw 2010 and all OUR money you spent on it while my son and other children just like him sit and wait amongst all your BS!!
They have to struggle with school and with daily life while you get to live life high on the hog!! Nice...real effin nice!!!! Choke on your hog Mr!!
I would LOVE LOVE LOVE for you to live my life for a year and see how happy you'd be with YOURSELF as a premiere!! YOU SUCK!!!!!
Oh and 3rdly the rain has come back!! Ackkkk!!! Looks like spring has officially arrived...cuz ya'll know that living in the South West Coast means 2 season, rain and summer...lol...
I hope there is some good news SOON to help get me out of my funk!
I'm out for now to drink myself to an oblivian...no worries...just water...can't afford real drinks anyhoo....lol...

How to develop healthy eating habits for life.

Found an article that I wanted to share with all those peeps interested in healthy eating and living. I hope you enjoy it. Credit is at the bottom of the page.

How to develop healthy eating habits for life

1. Eat 5 to 6 balanced meals a day
Eating 5 to 6 balanced meals a day means eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and 2 to 3 snacks daily. Each should include a grain and/or starch, a vegetable and/or fruit, and protein.

Build a balanced plate at every meal, a well as snacks. You'll see that the plate is divided into three sections, each section representing one of the main food groups, along with portion size. On one-half of the plate are fruits and vegetables, on one-quarter of the plate are grains and starches, and the remaining one-quarter is a source of protein.

2. Control portions and count calories
People who have successfully lost weight are those who control their calorie intake by monitoring food portions and calories. Reading labels, carefully measuring servings, and eating off smaller plates are all smart strategies to get you started. If you are dining at a restaurant, ask the waiter to serve you a small portion and wrap up the rest in a doggie bag.

Here's a reminder of the Energy Equation:
Calories in + calories out = caloric deficit or gain

Track your food intake by measuring your meals and snacks with measuring cups or a scale into appropriate portion sizes, rather than by counting calories. Use portion sizes as the guide to lowering calorie consumption, simply by eating less. When I divided my own dinner plate into the three components I describe above, I instantly realized that my portion sizes were larger than needed and this alone has helped me to better manage my weight. Here are some useful tips for assessing portion sizes by hand, when you are unable to measure your servings:

• A 1 cup (250 mL) serving of cereal, rice, or beans is roughly equal to the size of your fist.

• A 3 ounce (90 g) serving of chicken, beef, or fish is roughly equal to the size of the palm of your hand.

• A 1 ounce (30 g) serving of cheese is roughly equal to the size of your thumb.

3. Eat breakfast every day
Research shows that breakfast eaters generally weigh less than people who skip breakfast. A healthy breakfast provides those first critical nutrients your body needs each day for energy (so that you enjoy your exercise more!) and to manage stress. Eating breakfast also revs up your metabolism, which helps manage your weight. (People who skip breakfast also tend to snack throughout the day and consume a lot of extra calories at night, when metabolism starts to slow down. This all adds up to weight gain.)

Breakfast should be a combination of lean protein, complex carbohydrate, and healthy fats containing essential fatty acids, found in the omega-3s and omega-6s. This will help you build lean muscle and stabilize insulin levels, which help maintain hormone levels and manage sugar cravings early in the day. With your mind and mood in a positive and peak performance state, before you know it, mornings will have become your best friend.

Here are six breakfast suggestions to get you going:
1. 1 cup (250 mL) cooked oatmeal with 1 cup (250 mL) skim milk or soy milk and 2 tablespoons (30 mL) dried cranberries sprinkled on top

2. 1 to 2 slices whole-grain toast with 1 tablespoon (15 mL) peanut butter per slice and 1 sliced banana

3. Yogurt parfait: 3/4 cup (175 mL) plain yogurt with 1/3 cup (75 mL) fresh or frozen berries and 2/3 cup (150 mL) muesli.

4. 1 cup (250 mL) high-fibre cereal with 1 cup (250 mL) skim milk or soy milk and 1 apple

5. 2-egg vegetable omelet with a whole-wheat English muffin

6. 3/4 cup (175 mL) cottage cheese with 1/2 cup (125 mL) fresh pineapple and 1 to 2 slices whole-grain toast

4. Manage your metabolism
The Smart Eating Plan is all about keeping your energy up so you can build lean muscle, which will help you manage your metabolism. This becomes even more important as you age. As I mentioned earlier, the average adult loses 10 per cent of lean muscle per decade, with the metabolism slowing down by about the same percentage – unless something is done to stop the slide. Eating a mini-meal every 2 to 3 hours is a smart eating strategy that will help you manage the calories while building lean muscle. This is the best way to manage your caloric expenditure – your body will burn more calories by itself just to survive. Although you want to eat 5 to 6 meals and snacks a day, don't overeat at any of the meals and be sure to choose healthy, nutrient-rich foods.

5. Be mindful when eating
Pay attention to when and what you eat, and tap into your behaviour and feelings around food. Eat only when you are hungry, but don't wait until you feel starving, when you will more likely overeat and choose unhealthy foods to calm your cravings. When you are heading to the fridge or pantry, ask yourself, "What is motivating me to eat? Am I bored, angry, stressed, tired, full but not satisfied?"

Your New Body Daily Journal will help you keep track of your eating habits and food triggers. While it may seem tedious to keep a food journal, research shows that this is a highly effective practice. As I mentioned earlier, the average person underestimates his or her calorie intake by as much as 30 percent.

Recording what and how much you eat offers a much more accurate picture. By journaling what and when you eat and how certain foods make you feel, you will begin to notice your habits and spot trends and patterns around healthy and unhealthy eating. Seeing it on paper will help motivate you to make the necessary changes.

Be mindful of your eating environment. If your favourite treat is a cookie, why have a cupboard full of them? Treat yourself to a cookie, but make the experience worth it: Take a walk, purchase your treat, bring it back home, and enjoy it slowly with a cup of herbal tea or milk. Don't eat your treat while you are completing other tasks or activities, such as driving or emailing. Instead, place it on a plate, sit down, and consciously enjoy every bite.

If you are tempted to eat something that you don't really need, make sure you make it count. Do you remember the last time you gave into temptation? How quickly did you eat? Did you really enjoy it? Did you actually taste the food? Eating mindlessly can lead to excess calorie intake because we are not being aware of the amount of food we are eating. Many people give in to a junk-food craving when they are stressed; deep breathing curbs cravings by calming you down. Drinking water can also help control food cravings.

Changing your eating habits can be difficult. You might want to consider speaking to a registered dietitian to ensure that your meal plan fits with your lifestyle, preferences, goals, and health issues. You'll also be getting advice that is current, credible, and scientifically based.

6. Drink lots of water
Water is one of the essential nutrients required by the body; we need a minimum of eight to ten 8-ounce (250 mL) glasses every day. Water transports nutrients and energy to cells, regulates body temperature, supports muscle, protects joints and organs, removes waste, and helps regulate body weight. The best source of hydration comes from non-caffeinated, non-alcoholic beverages, soups, and watery foods such as fruit and vegetables. On average, 20 per cent of your water needs will come from food. Drink water with every meal and keep a bottle handy on your desk or in your bag.

Herbal teas are an excellent source of water, whereas caffeinated beverages add to your daily water need by acting as a diuretic and contributing to your daily fluid loss. Juices are a good choice because they contain vitamins and nutrients; however, they are high in naturally occurring sugar, which can contribute to weight gain. Sports drinks contain electrolytes (but also lots of carbohydrates in the form of liquid sugar or corn syrup) and may be beneficial for athletes who are training for high-intensity and long-duration events. Plain water is the best option.

Drink 1 cup (250 mL) water 2 hours before and again 30 to 40 minutes before you exercise, during as you can (being careful not to drink too much, as liquids in the stomach not yet digested may cause cramping), and again after exercise to manage energy and prevent dehydration. Water also helps reduce hunger and control cravings, so drink up the next time you are experiencing an energy crash or food craving. Drink water at whatever temperature you enjoy it – it's all good.

7. Wait before stepping on the scale
I don't believe in weighing oneself daily or paying too much attention to the numbers on the scale. They're just numbers, and they don't report body composition (ratio of lean body mass and fat weight). Also, weighing yourself more frequently may be de-motivating – you may think you aren't losing weight fast enough.

But trust me, as you achieve your new body over the course of the 6-week program you will begin to see your body shape change and the numbers on the scale change, too. Instead of weighing in daily, weigh yourself once a week and rely on more than just those numbers for an assessment of your progress. (In the program we use the body mass index and waist measurement as described in Chapter 1, as well as simple checks such as how your clothes are fitting.) Even though, at the end of the day, you do have to "measure it to manage it," just be sure to use all of the different methods to do so. Not only will it give you a more accurate picture of your progress, but it will keep you feeling positive about it.

8. Spend less time each week being sedentary
Time spent being a couch potato is time spent completely sedentary—and not spending calories. And often, being a couch potato goes hand in hand with mindless snacking. Consider this: Successful weight losers watch fewer than 10 hours of television per week. I recommend that you spend these hours better by doing something that will increase your fitness, help you manage your weight, and reach your new body goal. You might take a walk after dinner or play a game of Frisbee with your kids.

Engaging in as little as 15 minutes of light physical activity within 30 minutes after eating helps contribute to your caloric expenditure goal, curbs late-night food cravings that lead to snacking, and can help you sleep more soundly, too.

9. Keep your cup half full
Research suggests that people who are optimistic are more successful at changing their behaviour, including eating healthy and losing weight. Being optimistic is about focusing on what you can do, rather than on what you can't do. The focus is on gaining rather than losing—gaining health versus losing weight. Being optimistic is self-empowering; it's taking back your self-control. The difference between those who succeed in life and those who don't is that those who succeed make no excuses. They take action in the direction of their goals. You have the knowledge and the ability to do the same.

10. Supplement smart eating
Even the healthiest eaters can fall short of the daily requirements of certain vitamins or minerals. I know I don't always eat the best that I could. Some days I fall short on vegetables, some days on fruit, some days on grains. When I'm visiting my family, having dinner at a friend's home, or travelling, I'm not able to plan the menu to ensure that I get what I know my body needs. Taking a multi-vitamin and -mineral supplement helps me ensure that I get a basic amount of all the essential vitamins and minerals that I need for health. I'm a big believer that a pill shouldn't replace a balanced diet but, rather, as the name suggests, supplement it. Micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) each have a specific role in the body, and I need a daily dose of them to ensure that my body is functioning optimally. Health Canada recommends that all women of child-bearing age take a daily multi-vitamin. Before taking a supplement, consult with a registered dietician or physician.

11. Choose whole grains
Research suggests that diets that include high amounts of whole grains may contribute to significant weight loss, while also reducing the risk of chronic illnesses such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. A recent study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition shows that eating whole grains is associated with lower blood pressure and a lower body weight. This latter may be in part because whole grains slow digestion, making you feel fuller for longer.

The term whole grain means the grain still has the outer bran layer and inner germ layer, where most of the grain's nutrients are found. Refined and processed grains have been stripped of these two layers, leaving only the starchy endosperm. Whole-grain choices include oatmeal, whole-grain cereal, brown or wild rice, whole-wheat pasta, and snacks such as granola bars and popcorn. Be sure to read labels carefully—often what might at first glance seem like a good choice isn't really as healthy as you thought. For instance, "whole wheat" and "multi-grain" are not the equivalent of "whole grain," and many products touting "whole grain" are packed with sugar.

12. Say "no thanks" to empty calories
We've all given in to those urges and eaten too much chocolate or grabbed a doughnut and coffee at break time. But by doing this regularly, we gradually lose touch with our bodies, as empty calories and snacks become one quick-energy stepping stone to the next. A doughnut, for example, sends blood sugar soaring, giving you a boost of energy. Then, after about 10 minutes, your energy levels drop drastically, sending you to the kitchen or vending machine for something that will spike your energy again. What comes after that? Maybe chocolate-chip cookies or a handful of jujubes. The result is weight gain and eating habits that negatively impact your health.

Yay....It's May.....

Spring has finally hit us here in May!! Can I get a WOOT WOOT??
So we finally get a call last week about our son's Autism Assessment.
It's TOMORROW!!! About fricken time!!!
13 months in the waiting which is complete and total BS!!
So I was at the school helping out in the K class and my son's aid tells me that my son is only getting an aid for 1/2 a day next year in grade 1. Half a day is great for Kindergarten. So WTF is going to go on the other half of the day the aid isn't scheduled there?? HELLO!????? HAS ANYONE BEEN LISTENING TO ME??? He doesn't do well with change, he doesn't do well with lots of transitions and having an aid 2 1/2 hours of his 6 hours at the school just isn't going to cut it! Soooooo now I have to go to the school board and fight them on their decision not only of the half a day BS, but have to make sure they don't reassign another aid to him!! OMG he had 3 aids from Sept-Dec and he had just a hard time adjusting to it. This last aid who he's had since December, shes WONDERFUL and he's just now likes and it has taken quite a few months for this to happen! WTF is wrong with ppl??? They seriously need to get their heads outta their hineys!!!!
Oh and on another SOUR note...The Vancouver Canucks lost their game to the Chicago PUNKhawks 2-1 in OT. The series is now tied 2-2. Here's hoping the Canucks win the next 2 games to move on to the next round!!!
Anyways...here's a piccie of some of my spring flowers!!

Wish us luck on the assessment tomorrow!!
TTFN!!

You Are Coffee

You are highly ambitious and goal oriented. You feel like there isn't enough time in your day to get it all done.

You are outgoing and creative. You love talking with people, thinking up crazy plans, and then acting immediately on them.

When it comes to caffeine, you'd like a refill. You can almost always use an energy boost.

How Prissy Are You?

You Are a Bit Prissy

From time to time you can be a princess, but these days, who isn't a little high maintenance?

You know what you want, and you're definitely not afraid to ask for it.

(Just refrain from having a temper tantrum if you don't get your way!)

There's nothing wrong with having high standards... as long as they're occasionally low enough to allow spontaneity and fun!

You Are a Donut

You are whimsical, creative, and expressive. You love anything cute and colorful.
